For DovEggs clear moissanite: our hand-pick practice means our DEF-graded inventory is actually D color and our GHI-graded inventory is actually E–F color. We don't carry F or below in standard inventory unless specially requested. Whichever tier you pick, you're getting better than the label suggests.

For DovEggs Boutique lab diamond: we grow and cut every stone ourselves, focused on exquisite quality, fancy cuts, and a curated set of value-retaining colors (currently including pale pink, vivid green, and vivid blue — we adjust based on market demand). Limited pieces; each one is held to our internal standards before listing.

Section 1: The three materials

DovEggs sells three categories of center stone, each with its own approach to color. Knowing which material you want is the first decision; color choice then becomes much simpler.

Moissanite

Lab-grown silicon carbide. Higher dispersion than diamond (more rainbow fire), higher refractive index (more brilliance), Mohs hardness 9.25 (just below diamond). DovEggs has focused on moissanite for 11 years and we grow and cut every stone we sell — both clear and colored.

Pricing scales relatively flat with carat weight, which makes moissanite particularly attractive at larger sizes (2.5ct and above).

Lab-grown diamond

Lab-grown carbon, chemically and optically identical to mined diamond. Mohs hardness 10. Available in three DovEggs product lines:

DovEggs Boutique — grown and cut by DovEggs. Focused on exquisite quality, fancy cuts (Modified Ashoka, OEC, OMC, Rose, Crown Arrow™, Modified Sakura), and curated value-retaining colors. Limited pieces. As lab diamond costs continue to fall, more of our proprietary cuts (Astro, Nova) will move into Boutique production.

DovEggs Essential — grown and cut by DovEggs. Standard modern cuts (H&A round, oval, cushion, etc.). Held to the same growth and cutting standards as Boutique, but at standard cut configurations rather than fancy.

Lab Diamond Group — sourced through our partner labs. Over 10,000 certified stones available, covering every color, shape, and cut on the market. Priced individually and price-matched against any other vendor.

Lab-grown colored gemstones

Lab-grown sapphire, ruby, and emerald. Same chemical composition and physical properties as their natural counterparts — only mass spectrometers can tell them apart from mined stones. Hardness 9 for sapphire and ruby, 8 for emerald.

DovEggs colored gems are intrinsically colored: Zambia green emerald, pigeon blood ruby, deep royal blue sapphire. Quality at AAAAA grade (sapphire), pigeon blood / Burma red (ruby — the rarest red category), and deep saturation (emerald with characteristic bluish overtone).

Critically, every DovEggs colored gem can be cut in any cut from our catalog — Crown Arrow™, Pixel™, Sakura, Astro, Nova, Empress, Modified Ashoka, Modified Sakura, OEC, OMC, Rose, Portuguese, plus all standard cuts. This is unique to DovEggs; most colored-gem vendors offer a small subset of standard cuts.

Choosing between the three materials

The simplest decision tree:

• Want a classic white stone, traditional look? Lab diamond (Boutique for fancy cut, Essential for standard, Group for maximum selection and price match).
• Want maximum sparkle and fire, flexible with rainbow flashes? Moissanite.
• Want a stone in a specific color (blue, red, green) with traditional gem identity? Lab-grown colored gem.
• Want a non-traditional color with moissanite's brilliance? Colored moissanite (Peacock, Twilight, Stardust Grey, etc.).
• Want to be unique and value-conscious? Boutique colored lab diamond (pale pink, vivid green, vivid blue).

Most of our buyers ultimately combine two or more — for example, a clear moissanite center with colored side stones, or a colored gem solitaire with a clear moissanite eternity band. Our team is happy to consult on material combinations.

Section 2: How DovEggs grades clear moissanite

For 11 years our team has graded clear moissanite stone by stone, by hand. Every piece is individually evaluated under controlled lighting against master comparison stones before it's listed. Stones that don't meet our internal standards are returned to the cutter.

How our tiers actually work

Our two clear moissanite tiers are DEF and GHI — but the stones inside each tier consistently exceed those grades:

• DEF tier: every stone is D color. We don't blend D, E, and F within this tier; we hold the entire tier to D.
• GHI tier: every stone is E or F color. The "GHI" label is conservative — in practice, our GHI inventory tests at E–F under master comparison.

Customers who pay GHI pricing receive what most vendors would sell as DEF. Customers who pay DEF pricing receive top-of-colorless D.

What we don't carry

We don't stock F-or-below in standard inventory. If a stone tests at G or below in our hand-pick process, it doesn't enter our regular tiers. The only exception is special order — typically buyers wanting a specific vintage aesthetic. We also don't carry K, L, or M moissanite (older moissanite from the early 2000s could test in this range; modern moissanite is overwhelmingly E–F or better).

Cut and color interaction

Color appearance is partially driven by cut. Crushed ice and other modified-brilliant cuts read slightly warmer than H&A at the same actual color grade, because the fragmented faceting pattern lets more light penetrate the body of the stone before returning to the eye.

Why this matters for buyers

Three practical implications:

1. You don't need to upgrade beyond GHI to get colorless results. GHI delivers what most vendors call DEF. Many of our long-term customers buy GHI for everything.
2. The DEF premium buys certification, not a visible difference. D vs. E vs. F is invisible to the eye in any normal lighting. The DEF tier exists for buyers who want top-tier paperwork or peace of mind.
3. What you see is what you get. Hand-picking means the stone you see is the stone you receive. We don't substitute, we don't grade-creep, and we don't run different standards for different price points.

Section 3: How lab diamond color is graded

Lab diamonds use the same GIA D–Z scale as mined diamonds, graded individually per stone. Across all three of our lab diamond product lines (Boutique, Essential, Group), color is reported per-stone with certification from IGI or GIA.

The scale breaks into the same five practical tiers as mined diamond:

Colorless (D, E, F). No detectable color even when set face-down on a white card next to a master stone. The price difference between D and F can be 8–15% — almost entirely a paper distinction visually.

Near-colorless (G, H, I, J). Faint warmth detectable only under controlled comparison; not visible face-up to most viewers. This tier is where most informed buyers find the best value, especially when paired with yellow or rose gold settings.

Faint (K, L, M). Visible warmth in some lighting, particularly against white metals. Looks beautiful in yellow or rose gold settings. Significantly less expensive than higher grades.

Very Light (N–R). Clear yellow tint visible face-up. Rare in modern engagement rings.

Light (S–Z). Distinct yellow color. This range overlaps with what's sold as "fancy yellow" diamond.

Beyond clear, our Boutique line features a curated set of fancy colors — chosen because they're both visually striking and value-retaining. The current lineup includes pale pink, vivid green, and vivid blue. We adjust this lineup based on market demand and our growth capacity, so additional colors may appear over time.

What "Boutique" means for color

Three commitments that define our Boutique colored lab diamonds:

We grow them ourselves. Every Boutique colored lab diamond is grown in-house with chemistry tuned for the target color. We don't buy and resell colored rough; we control the entire process.

We cut them ourselves. Boutique stones are cut in our specialty cuts — currently Modified Ashoka (more like an Ashoka silhouette than a Criss cut, with the pillow shape and extra brilliant facets), Old European Cut (OEC), Old Mine Cut (OMC), Rose Cut, Crown Arrow™, and Modified Sakura. As lab diamond costs continue to fall, we'll add Astro, Nova, and other cuts to the Boutique cut catalog.

Limited pieces, individual evaluation. Each Boutique stone is graded individually for color saturation, hue purity, and clarity (typically VVS to VS). We don't run batch grading; the stone you see is the stone you get.

The current colored lineup

Pale pink Boutique lab diamond. Soft, romantic pinks ranging from blush-pale to richer rose. Holds value well — pink lab diamonds have one of the strongest secondary markets among fancy colors. Pairs particularly well with rose gold (color enhanced) and white gold (color contrast).

Vivid green Boutique lab diamond. Saturated green ranging from spring grass to forest. Vivid green is the rarest naturally-occurring fancy color in mined diamonds (which is why historical pieces are extremely valuable); lab-grown vivid green delivers the same visual character at radically more accessible pricing. Pairs beautifully with white gold and yellow gold.

Vivid blue Boutique lab diamond. Rich, saturated blue — like a deep sapphire or the iconic blue of historic fancy-color diamonds. Cool-toned and dramatic. Best in white gold or platinum settings, where the cool metal reinforces the blue.

Why we curate

We curate the Boutique colored lineup rather than offering every fancy color because:

1. Each color has its own growth chemistry. Producing vivid blue requires different conditions than producing pale pink. Mastering each color takes time.
2. We focus on value-retaining colors. Pink, green, and blue have the strongest fancy-color markets. They're not just aesthetically distinctive — they hold their value over time.
3. Limited pieces means individual attention. Every Boutique stone gets hand evaluation. If we expanded to every possible color, we'd lose that level of care.

How Boutique colored lab diamond compares to colored moissanite

Both are beautiful; they serve different buyers.

Boutique colored lab diamond has the optical character of diamond — clear, clean, "depth" — with the value-retention curve of fancy colored diamond. It's chosen by buyers who want fancy color with traditional gem identity and resale strength.

Colored moissanite has higher dispersion (more rainbow fire) and more saturated jewel-tone effects. The color often reads more dramatic under light. It's chosen by buyers who want the most visually expressive colored stone, less concerned with market resale.

Many of our long-term customers own both — for example, a Boutique vivid blue lab diamond ring on one hand and a Peacock Blue moissanite ring on the other.

Pricing for Boutique colored lab diamond

Pricing is per-stone, not per-tier, because each Boutique colored stone is hand-evaluated. Generally:

• Pale pink runs at the highest premium of the current lineup, reflecting fancy-color market pricing for pink.
• Vivid green and vivid blue run at moderate premiums, both significantly less than mined-diamond equivalents.
• All Boutique colored lab diamonds are dramatically more affordable than equivalent mined fancy color — that's the entire point of lab grown becoming our core value: luxury jewelry for all, not just the wealthy few.

Section 5: Lab Diamond Group

The Lab Diamond Group is our partnership with multiple specialized labs, giving you access to over 10,000 certified lab diamonds across every color, shape, cut, and quality combination available in the global market.

What the Group is for

Group is for buyers who want maximum selection rather than the curated fancy-cut focus of Boutique. If you have a very specific spec in mind — a 2.13ct G-color VS1 cushion, or a 1.45ct K-color radiant in a yellow gold halo — Group is where you'll find it.

Group is also where you'll find:

• Lab diamonds in every fancy color (yellow, pink, blue, green, brown, gray, black) at every saturation level.
• Lab diamonds in every shape, including less-common shapes Boutique doesn't currently offer.
• Lab diamonds at every quality combination, from VVS1/D top-tier to SI2/M value-tier.

Because Group inventory comes from multiple partner labs, it changes daily. A specific stone you saw last week may be sold; new stones come in continuously. If you have specific specifications, our team can set up a notification when matching stones arrive — email us with your target specs (carat range, color range, clarity range, shape, cut grade) and we'll watch the inventory feed for you.

Group + DovEggs settings

Every Group stone — like every Essential, every Boutique, and every moissanite — works with our full semi-mount setting catalog. You don't lose access to our settings by choosing Group. Whether you pick a $1,200 Group stone or a $20,000 Boutique stone, the same DovEggs settings, warranty, and lifetime maintenance apply.

This is one of the reasons many customers choose to buy stones from us even when stone-only marketplaces might quote slightly different prices — our setting quality, lifetime warranty, and customer service are part of the total package.

Section 6: DovEggs colored moissanite

Beyond clear, we offer six signature moissanite colors — each with its own loyal community following and its own quality story. All six share three commitments unique to DovEggs:

We never coat. We only grow. Every colored moissanite stone we sell is grown to its color from raw material. The color is intrinsic to the stone, present at every depth, and stable indefinitely. Coated stones (sold by some vendors at lower prices) develop their color from a thin surface layer that wears off over years; ours never do.

We cut every colored moissanite in-house. Colored moissanite cutting is harder than clear cutting — the color body affects how light moves through the stone. Our cutters have spent years developing facet patterns specifically for our colored materials.

Eleven years of R&D in colored moissanite. Twilight Blue, Stardust Grey, and Smokey Sparks Grey are colors DovEggs developed and our community named. They didn't exist in the moissanite market before us.

Peacock Blue (our most popular specialty color)

A deep teal-blue with shifting green undertones — the stone reads differently as the angle changes, evoking the iridescence of actual peacock feathers. In motion, Peacock Blue produces flashes of green, blue, and a touch of violet over a rich saturated body color.

DovEggs developed this color and our community named it. The growth chemistry is difficult and yields are low, which is why Twilight Blue carries a premium over Peacock Blue and Champagne. It pairs beautifully with Nova cut (which amplifies fire under the blue body) and with H&A round (a classic outline carrying an unexpected color).

Best for: non-traditional engagement rings, alternative weddings, anniversary upgrades; buyers who already know they want something genuinely rare.

Stardust Grey (DovEggs proprietary)

A subtle smoky grey with silver undertones — deliberately understated. Stardust Grey reads as quiet sophistication rather than jewel-tone drama. In dim light, the stone takes on a slightly mysterious cast; in bright light, the grey reveals more silver.

The growth process is even more delicate than Twilight Blue's — small variations in growth conditions shift the grey toward green, brown, or blue, and only stones in the correct silver-grey window pass our standards. There isn't a cut Stardust Grey can't pull off (a phrase we hear repeatedly from our community); it pairs beautifully with our Sakura Cut and is especially loved in Rose Cut.

Smokey Sparks Grey (limited inventory — ask before ordering)

A blue-grey moissanite with dramatic chameleon properties — the stone shifts visibly between cool blue undertones and warm grey depending on light source. Many community members describe it as a "perfect mixture of grey blue" that goes well with all metal tones.

Champagne moissanite

A warm, golden-honey hue — somewhere between cognac and pale champagne. The color is consistent throughout the stone (no zoning) and saturates more visibly in larger sizes. Champagne moissanite has the same brilliance and fire as colorless moissanite; the only difference is body color.

Champagne pairs beautifully with yellow gold and rose gold. It's the most accessible of our specialty colors — easier to grow than the proprietary blues and greys, and priced closer to clear colorless moissanite. Our community especially loves Champagne in Nova cut for its rainbow flashes against the warm body.

Best for: vintage and antique aesthetics, warm-toned wardrobes, autumn-themed weddings; anyone drawn to yellow diamond at moissanite pricing.

Accident Colors (rotating limited collection)

We have a dedicated Accident Colors collection — moissanite stones that emerge accidentally during the growth of our other proprietary colors. Because the color in these stones is unstable (small variations in growth conditions produce inconsistent results), accident colors can't be permanent product offerings. Instead, when an accidental batch occurs, we cut the rough into popular shapes and our most-loved cuts, and release the result as a limited drop.

Examples of accident colors that have appeared in our inventory over the years:

• Pale yellow / canary — yellow body with rainbow fire, often described by community as "looks like canary diamond, only with more fire."

We also grow lab-created sapphire, ruby, and emerald — a category many lab-grown brands skip but that we've invested in for our customers seeking traditional colored-gem identity.

What "lab-grown gemstone" means

DovEggs lab-grown colored gemstones are grown by simulating in a laboratory the natural formation of these gem materials. They contain the same chemical compositions and physical properties as natural sapphire, ruby, and emerald — and only mass spectrometers can distinguish them from mined stones.

We use the best cosolvent technology in the market for our gem growth. Mohs hardness ratings match natural counterparts: 9 for sapphire and ruby, 8 for emerald — the same lifetime durability as mined gems.

Clarity standard: VVS1–VVS2 across our colored gem inventory.

Sapphire (deep royal blue, AAAAA quality)

Our DovEggs sapphires are intense, deep royal blue — what the gem trade calls AAAAA quality, the top sapphire color category. The color is saturated and even, without the green or grey overtones common in lower-quality blue sapphire.

In white gold or platinum settings, our sapphires read as classic high-jewelry blue — comparable in visual character to top-tier Kashmir or Burma natural sapphire, at radically more accessible pricing.

Best for: classic colored-stone engagement rings, September birthstones, anyone drawn to the timeless blue-stone look; alternative wedding sets; "something blue" rings.

Ruby (pigeon blood / Burma red)

Our rubies are pigeon blood red — also called Burma red, the rarest red category in natural ruby. The color is deep, slightly fluorescent, and warm (with no orange or pink shift). In natural mined form, pigeon-blood rubies command extreme premiums; in our lab-grown form, the same color is accessible.

Best in yellow or rose gold (warm metal harmonizes with warm stone) and in white gold settings (cool metal creates dramatic contrast). Looks particularly stunning in Modified Ashoka and Empress cuts in our catalog.

Most colored-gem vendors offer standard cuts only — round, oval, cushion, emerald cut, princess. Their cutters are set up for a small number of standard shapes, and venturing into specialty cuts (Crown Arrow™, Pixel™, Sakura, Rose, OEC, Portuguese, etc.) is uneconomical at their scale.

Because DovEggs grows our own gem material and cuts it in-house — and because we already operate the cutting infrastructure for our moissanite specialty cuts — we can produce a Sakura sapphire, a Pixel ruby, or a Crown Arrow emerald with the same precision as our moissanite specialty cuts.

Is moissanite color the same as diamond color?

The grading scale is the same (D–Z), but how we apply it differs. DovEggs hand-picks every clear moissanite stone, and our tier labels are conservative: stones sold as "DEF" are actually D, and stones sold as "GHI" are actually E–F. What color grade should I get for a yellow gold lab diamond setting?

No. Every colored moissanite stone we sell is grown to its color from raw material. The color is intrinsic to the stone, present at every depth, and stable indefinitely. Coated stones (sold by some vendors) develop color from a thin surface layer that wears off over years. Ours don't.

Yes. DovEggs is a 100% lab-grown brand for environmental reasons. All our sapphires, rubies, and emeralds are lab-grown using cosolvent technology. They have the same chemical composition and physical properties as natural gems — only mass spectrometers can distinguish them.

Can your colored gemstones be cut in your specialty cuts?

Yes — every colored gem in our catalog can be cut in any cut we offer, including Crown Arrow™, Pixel™, Sakura, Astro, Nova, Empress, Modified Ashoka, Modified Sakura, OEC, OMC, Rose, and Portuguese, in addition to all standard cuts. What about fluorescence in lab diamonds?
