Moissanite or lab grown diamond?
A shopper asked whether lab diamonds in fancy colors appear more crisp or defined in cut than moissanite, and members shared their experiences comparing the two. · March 11, 2026
“Moissanite has double refraction that's why the cut would never look as crisp as diamond. If moissanite is not well cut, it can look foggy because of that birefringence.”
— A Dovie
“After having both, lab just has such a depth to it in both color and cut that moissanite doesn’t. It is CLOSE, but it just isn’t the same.”
— A Dovie
“I have both, for clear stones there is noticeable difference to me. Labs are clearer. Colored moissanite stones are really pretty, they do still show more rainbow colors than labs. That’s how I can tell the biggest differences”
— A Dovie
“The rainbow flashes are the big, noticeable different. I would say round moissanites are closest to diamonds but with the other shapes, there’s a distinct difference. Some prefer the rainbow flashes of moissanite over diamonds. I prefer labs. I’m not a fan of the rainbow, especially in the larger cut moissanite. …”
— A Dovie
Members compare lab-grown and moissanite OEC stones, discussing differences in appearance, light performance, and personal preferences. · March 7, 2026
“are you considering one of the OEC labs? I have nearly bought one of the ones currently available, but they are so shallow and hence dark in the center in some lights. I can't decide if it will be fine in a pendant.... …”
— A Dovie
“These are pics of two of my OECs in different lighting; the black sapphire halo is a GHI Moissanite, the emerald halo is a G-colored, LD OEC. The Moissanite has a lot of rainbow flashes, as expected. The LD has virtually no rainbow flashes but sparkles as one would expect a diamond to sparkle. Hope this helps.”
— A Dovie
“Moissanite has more color, but a good eye immediately knows it’s not real diamond. I prefer lab or natural diamonds.”
— A Dovie
“That's sensible. I do find that the double refraction somewhat reduces the fun of looking at the flower facet pattern, so I keep hoping for a well-cut OEC lab.”
— A Dovie
Members compare two grey moissanite stones in different cuts, discussing how dark each appears and how the color looks in person. · January 15, 2026
“I ordered a stardust pendant and it doesn’t always look gray, so I’d definitely pick the most saturated gray stone (bottom)!”
— A Dovie
“The bottom is definitely darker. The top one has more of a grey diamond look.”
— A Dovie
“Both stones are beautiful, so I think it comes down to what you're going for. If you want a slightly lighter gray, go with the top. If you want a deeper, darker gray, the bottom would be the better choice. Love the Nova oval though!”
— A Dovie
Comparison of 4-carat black moissanite and black sapphire, noting differences in appearance and finish. · March 30, 2026
“I had a black Moissy and it was identical to my black diamond. They are gorgeous”
— A Dovie
“I have pieces in both of these and that's the primary difference. Also, you can get accent stones in black sapphire but not black moissanite, which may make a difference in final choice. It's also good to remember that BOTH of these gems are opaque and not clear at all.”
— A Dovie
“This is wonderful thank you for sharing. I somehow wonder what the shine is like under sunlight for both. DovEggs JewelryDovEggs Moissanite does a black moissanite give off the same fire in sunlight as another colored moissanite? …”
— A Dovie
“This is really cool. Thank you for sharing this. I agree with you that the moissanite has a silvery finish compared to the Black Sapphire, which is almost like a very true black.”
— A Dovie
A member discusses how her marquise moissanite pulls warmth and looks hazier than lab diamonds, and commenters share similar experiences with marquise stones and lab alternatives. · April 25, 2026
“I like marquis labs but no luck with moissanite marqis, feel it is one stone that looks like you said hazy or a tad cloudy compared to lab grown.”
— A Dovie
“yes completely agree! I do wish we had a larger carat selection of clear marquise stones. I definitely think it’s worth it to get the lab because the hazy milky appearance can be off putting especially in different lighting.”
— A Dovie
“de made the setting this is a 4.55ct lab marquis and its very crisp”
— A Dovie
Members discuss availability and color differences of Colombian versus Zambian emeralds, with official updates. · May 16, 2026
“What is the color of Colombian emeralds vs the Zambian? Or are the same?”
— A Dovie
“they are different. The Columbian emeralds are more of a blue green. The others look like a darker green to me. They also make Columbian emeralds with inclusions which adds character to the stone. I’m waiting to find out if they have anymore of those.”
— A Dovie
“I've got some exciting news! It means you can not only have it, but also customize the cut in all DovEggs Cut Variabilities. I'll double verify and update!”
— DovEggs team
Quick answers
- Do lab diamond accents cost more than moissanite accents on DovEggs rings? Yes, lab diamond accents cost more than moissanite accents on DovEggs rings. The accent size, count, and coverage (half vs 3/4 vs full eternity) also affect the price.
- For marquise or elongated cuts, should I choose lab diamond or moissanite? Community consensus is that lab diamond is preferred over moissanite for marquise and other elongated cuts because moissanite in these shapes can look hazy or dull. For step cuts like Asscher and emerald, higher clarity (VVS) is rewarded.
- What are OMC and OEC cuts, and are they available in moissanite? OMC (Old Mine Cut) is a cushion shape and OEC (Old European Cut) is a round shape, and DovEggs offers both in moissanite as well as in colored gemstones above 1 carat. They are shape-specific, so OMC is not available as an Asscher.
How the colors really look
A member shares a video of a pink diamond for a custom ring, noting it looks peachy rather than pink, and others discuss the difficulty of finding true pink diamonds without peach or brown undertones. · April 24, 2026
“Do you have a picture of the listing photo or video? Skin tone and metal tone play a big role in throwing off the lighter colored stones.”
— A Dovie
“Unfortunately, the pink diamonds are very difficult to get without either a peach or brown undertone. This one does look peachy.”
— A Dovie
“Definitely peach. This exact thing happened to me. I still love my ring but I wanted a pink diamond, not peach.”
— A Dovie
“The purpose of DE getting the stone and sending you a video is for you to approve or pass on the stone, so it's NO PROBLEM if you don't like it. It looks like they are sending more videos, but don't feel bad if you don't love it and end up passing on it. DE can help you find another one. …”
— A Dovie
“I saw that the first part of the video is very orange, and the other natural light is pink. It seems the first part of the video was taken under dark light, and even the hand is dark. I've requested to send more videos of the stone, and make sure to let you know which one is the closest to its real-life color. Lighting and video, unfortunately, often give a false impression of the true color. …”
— DovEggs team
Members discuss whether ruby accent stones appear true red or pink, noting that smaller stones look lighter and that rubies often have pink undertones. · March 4, 2026
“I think they should all be the color of the one on the far right. The others are too pink”
— A Dovie
“My oval with the ruby halo looks really deep red in some lighting, and pinkish in other lighting. Rubies tend to do that, especially the smaller ones.”
— A Dovie
“Many rubies usually do have pink undertones. Some can lean more red. When I made a ruby halo, I requested rubies with more red undertones. I was happy with the color. It did still have a pink tint to it but leaned more red.”
— A Dovie
“As a general rule, the smaller the stone, the lighter its color appears. This applies to moissanite, colored gemstones, and lab diamonds cut from the same raw material. If you prefer a deeper hue, just let us know! We will check our inventory and hand-select the darkest available stone for you.”
— DovEggs team
A member asked for help deciding between peacock blue and stardust colored stones for a bezel setting, and commenters discussed how the colors appear in different lighting and with different metals. · May 8, 2026
“This is a 1.5 OMC square cushion in peacock -- again, I asked for darker color. I know you're looking at lighter stones, but this is an example of the variety of shades within one color category.”
— A Dovie
“This is my 1.5 round Portuguese cut stardust in silver. I've posted it a few times when people have asked about the color, setting style or ct size, etc. I asked for a darker stardust stone -- this is in LED light and shows its lighter side. When I get in outdoor light it darkens a good bit more (which I love).”
— A Dovie
“Did you request for the stones to be this light? I find the light stones don't give the same experience as the more pigmented versions. But if you are wanting subtle, go with stardust. If you love color definitely go with peackock. …”
— A Dovie
“If you are doing a metal, Stardust Grey. Yellow or Rose gold, Peacock.”
— A Dovie
Members help choose between different gray moissanite stones, discussing darkness, sparkle, and cut. · May 14, 2026
“I think #4 is the perfect mix of darkness and sparkle.”
— A Dovie
“1 or 4. 1 for dark color and 4 for depth. Usually I lean towards dark but this 4th one looks great and I love it! 3rd one is a little too light for me personally”
— A Dovie
“4, 3 looks way too light in the 2nd video (hard to tell if it's gray or a colorless that's not quite colorless).”
— A Dovie
“The fourth stone. It is gray but sparkles still so it’s not too dark. Depending on the setting, the stone could appear darker once set. I had the same thing, wanted something lighter but still grey that showed grey.”
— A Dovie
Members compare deep and light champagne moissanite stones, discussing sparkle, metal setting, and light performance. · May 12, 2026
“I love the bronze flashes in the deeper color”
— A Dovie
“What color metal will you set the stone in? That could make a difference. Also, how will it be set? They are both gorgeous so I don’t think you’ll go wrong.”
— A Dovie
“Both are beautiful but the the top stone is more refined. Depends also on the setting. Find something that allows a good amount of light in, otherwise the color will look lost.”
— A Dovie
“I like the light champagne stone. There's more light and sparkle to it.”
— A Dovie
Members discuss the color variations of champagne moissanite, sharing photos and advice on how to request lighter shades to avoid a yellow tint. · February 7, 2026
“Champagne marquise tend to be deeply pigmented which is beautiful! It might be my next shape in champagne moissanite!”
— A Dovie
“Light champagne on both! always ask for the very lightest”
— A Dovie
“I have noticed that the shape makes a big difference in the hue, here is my champagne ring. The color in person is less yellow and more like actual champagne.”
— A Dovie
Quick answers
- Can the hidden halo or bezel be made in a different metal color than the rest of the ring? Yes, hidden halos and bezels can be made in a different metal color from the rest of the ring, such as a yellow gold bezel or halo with white gold prongs, or a rose gold bezel with platinum prongs and band. Two-tone is quoted case by case and sometimes needs a feasibility check with the factory first.
- Can I use colored moissanite for tiny pave or eternity stones? Colored moissanite accents have a minimum size — the smallest DovEggs can custom-cut is about 0.5ct — so tiny pave or eternity melee cannot be replaced with colored moissanite. You could consider a band made with 0.5ct colored stones instead, or use sapphires or colored gems where appropriate.
- How do people build sets and stacks with trend colors? DovEggs community members mix a coloured centre with clear accents, match an enhancer's pink sapphires to a halo, or buy matching pendant/earrings in the same shape family. Suggesting a matching band, enhancer or pendant is a natural follow-up.
Special cuts up close
A shopper asks if a visible line across a 3ct stardust grey elongated oval moissanite is normal, and members share experiences with similar cuts and advise asking for a different stone. · May 24, 2026
“I have a 2 carat stardust gray in H&A cut and it definitely does have windowing and you can see the band beneath it. It bothered me at first, but honestly it’s beautiful and I get so many compliments when I wear it. This is pretty common in ovals. Maybe consider an elongated cushion.”
— A Dovie
“I have seen many bow ties in ovals but I haven't seen a line and that one is pretty bad I would ask to look at different stones”
— A Dovie
“I have the stardust in 4ct radiant in astro cut and there's no line. I don't know if that cut in an oval causes that though.”
— A Dovie
“That's great feedback! Thanks for the video! This is definitely something that needs to be improved. I will send it to the factory to investigate if that's a one-stone or a cut problem and for an improvement. Also, I'll let the custom team know about your concern, and they will communicate with you about changing stone options.”
— DovEggs team
A member reviews a tryout Dutch Marquise cut stone, noting it looks muddled in some lighting and has a dark spot, and others discuss the challenges of marquise cuts in moissanite. · April 16, 2026
“It’s not great, I’m afraid”
— A Dovie
“The marquise cut was challenging in Moissanite. DE worked on it for a long time, striving to improve the clarity and brilliance. It may be something about the shape and facets on a marquise that just doesn't work as well in moissanite.”
— A Dovie
“that's what I'm thinking. I know the finally got the traditional marquise to a point many are happy with it, and this was just the tryout on the Dutch Marquise shape, so maybe they can edit it a little and get more clarity.”
— A Dovie
“Thanks for your honest review of the new cut Tryout! Your voices will help us decide whether to make this cut permanent. Looking forward to seeing more reviews!”
— DovEggs team
Members discuss pros and cons of compass prongs on emerald cut stones, noting they can reflect as dark spots, while one shares positive long-term experience. · March 28, 2026
“If you’re planning on an emerald cut, I don’t recommend them. The reflection of the prongs can appear as a dark spot in the center of the stone.”
— A Dovie
“Compass prongs can add shadowing in step cuts. They can work but I suggest fine claw prongs if you’re really wanting compass style on a step cut.”
— A Dovie
“I have a compass set emerald cut ring, I've had it almost 2 years now and I haven't had a problem with it. I've read all of the warnings but I wanted my dream ring so I took the chance. I can absolutely attest to how much more fire and brilliance is given because of the compass setting.”
— A Dovie
“Compass prongs often reflect inside step cuts. Would not do that.”
— A Dovie
A member seeks feedback on a marquise stone to minimize bow tie, and others share experiences and advice. · May 25, 2026
“You can google "Ideal marquise diamond ratio" and go from there to get educated on how the length, width, and depth (height) of the stone affects the bow tie, and brilliance.”
— A Dovie
“It will be hard to find one without a bow tie. This one looks pretty minimal. I have a radiant, when I received it, all I could see was the bow tie. Now I don’t notice it. It has to be at a precise angle to catch it.”
— A Dovie
“Back in the 60’s when my dad bought my moms marquise engagement ring the bow tie was a big deal . The stone had to have a bow tie was all the rage .”
— A Dovie
“I’m in the same position I you are ! I want a marquise but have the same questions it looks good to me”
— A Dovie
A member is unsure about a Nova cut stone in photos, and members discuss Nova versus H&A cuts and how video shows sparkle better than photos. · January 8, 2026
“I love hearts n arrow sparkle and nova sparkle astro appears blurry in a oval to me, its all in how your eye sees it. But I believe when u see this in person the nova is gonna wow u”
— A Dovie
“I love my H&A elongated oval!! I ended up sending my original engagement ring back because it was set with an elongated Astro and the stone looked like it had gaps in it.”
— A Dovie
“Pictures never capture things as well as video when it comes to showcasing sparkle. I just saw the video and thought it was gorgeous. The video definitely captures more of the sparkle.”
— A Dovie
“Personal preference only: I prefer the Astro cut oval. To my eye (My own opinion ONLY) the big square facet on top of the Nova kind of opposes the shape of the stone.”
— A Dovie
A member compares Astro and Nova cuts for a cobalt blue stone, and others discuss sparkle, color consistency, and alternative cuts like twilight blue or rose cut. · January 12, 2026
“Honestly, I’d want to see both stones held with tweezers and exposed to light, I think the area where the stones touch the skin distorts them…”
— A Dovie
“If you want more sparkle, you'll likely need to switch your stone to a Twilight Blue moissanite or lab diamond but you'll not likely have that fantastic shade of Cobalt. I think it's just the nature of the beast, dark sapphires just don't have a lot of sparkle. …”
— A Dovie
“I can barely tell the difference but it might just be me. If I had to pick, nova for me. The blue is pretty but..there's not enough sparkle... .maybe twilight blue moissanite or blue lab diamond ?”
— A Dovie
“yes but I love this deep blue cobalt hue from the blue sapphires, I just want it consistently. The Astro only had it in certain lighting...some people say Nova holds the color more consistently and with more sparkle. You have any experience with Nova ovals??”
— A Dovie
Quick answers
- Can I get an elongated cushion cut that is longer and narrower? The elongated cushion cut has a fixed ratio, so DovEggs cannot cut it slimmer or longer on request. If you want a longer, narrower look, consider an elongated oval, the Empress cut, or a lab diamond modified elongated cushion.
- Are try-out cuts like the Marquise Step Cut available in other shapes or colors? New or 'try-out' cuts like the Marquise Step Cut shown in Peacock Blue are launched in limited runs, and community feedback decides whether they become permanent. DovEggs cannot promise a try-out cut in other shapes, colours or sizes before confirming with the team.
- Why does my crushed-ice or emerald-cut moissanite look hazy or dirty so quickly? Crushed-ice and some large step cuts like emerald and asscher show water spots and a dirty or hazy look faster due to the cut characteristic, not a quality fault. Frequent gentle cleaning keeps them crisp.
Metals: sterling silver, gold & platinum over time
A member questions whether their white gold ring is unplated, and DovEggs responds that it appears plated and will be corrected; others discuss plating wear and preferences. · May 18, 2026
“Out of curiosity, why not plated?”
— A Dovie
“It’s beautiful! I think it looks stunning with that bright white stone. However if you wanted unplated, they will fix it. And once you get it and if you decide you like the plated look, you can always have it plated down the road. Love the simple semimount!”
— A Dovie
“I do like the white gold. My original engagement ring was white gold, but the plating wore off so quickly on me. I figured I would try the unplated white gold again since I liked it before.”
— A Dovie
“It does appear to have been plated. I have already flagged this with our custom team to double confirm. Rest assured, we will make sure the ring is fully returned to its natural, unplated finish before shipping.”

“all silver does this when in chlorine it will clean up nice when u clean”
— A Dovie
“My silver tarnished very badly in a jewelery box. I love my platinum though. All silver turns black on me, doveggs or otherwise.”
— A Dovie
“Never wear silver in chlorinated pool.”
— A Dovie
“Mine did this but I cleaned it back to normal with the baking soda/foil/boiling water method”
— A Dovie
“To answer your question, this reaction is actually quite common when Sterling Silver comes into contact with the strong chemicals found in swimming pools (like chlorine). …”

Members compare bezel and prong settings for daily wear, comfort, and stone security. · April 30, 2026
“I have round diamonds set in both and love both! Like most people, I think bezel feels more comfortable for daily wear. But I have to say my solitaire in a cathedral setting with prongs - that thing sparkles like no other.”
— A Dovie
“I have an even split between bezel and prong rings, but for almost every ring going forward I’m going to get a bezel because I find I wear them much more than my prongs.”
— A Dovie
“Bezel for everyday wear. Prongs when I’m feeling fancy.”
— A Dovie
“I have both. For no nonsense every day wear, a bezel is more practical - especially around kids. If I am feeling fancy or getting dressed up, I’ll break out the prongs. I like both though”
— A Dovie
Members discuss gold plating on an Amazon ring wearing off quickly, and several recommend custom ordering with solid gold instead. · March 12, 2026
“I had this one from Amazon and I agree the plating wears off quickly. However, I had DE make me one custom with the exes in 14 or 18 karat gold, and lab grown diamonds, and it has held up beautifully ”
— A Dovie
“I have this ring with the gold plated x’s and they wore off very quickly. If I had it to do over, I would’ve either done all silver or a custom through the website to make the x’s 10 k gold.”
— A Dovie
“Plating is temporary no matter where you purchase from, unfortunately. The only way to guarantee that it’ll stay gold forever is to purchase one that’s made from it entirely. Otherwise the top coating will eventually wear off.”
— A Dovie
“I have the one from Amazon. The gold plating definitely wares off and pretty fast. I ended up buying it from DE in solid white and yellow gold and it’s held up fine. The quality is also different from the Amazon one vs the one you order on the DE website. The DE website fits more comfortably.”
— A Dovie
Members discuss the quality and durability of gold-plated rings from DovEggs, with some sharing negative experiences and others noting that DovEggs does not recommend plating for daily wear. · March 2, 2026
“I have a couple I’ve had for a few years - I rarely wear them so they still look ok - but if you plan to wear it - just get solid gold - their plating isn’t that great”
— A Dovie
“DE themselves don’t recommend it, gold plated silver is not long lasting”
— A Dovie
“Let me put it this way. It's one of the reasons I am returning mine. As long as its not in contact with your hands, it's probably okay. But if it is, its gonna be gone quick.”
— A Dovie
“I tried to over a ring with rose gold plating over silver and they messaged me after I ordered and said they don’t recommend it, as the plating will wear off.”
— A Dovie
A shopper asks how sterling silver holds up for an engagement ring, and members share experiences with durability, scratching, and maintenance compared to white gold. · April 30, 2026
“All my DE rings are silver. The one I wear the most has some small dings on the underside of the band. But I’m the only one who notices and it doesn’t bother me one bit. It’s beautiful and the right price point for my life.”
— A Dovie
“I bought mine as sterling silver. While it’s beautiful and I do love it, silver is soft and mine got dinged up from daily use after a couple of years. I regret not getting white gold and will get it reset in gold some day.”
— A Dovie
“Sterling won’t be as strong as other metals, and may get scratches easier, but I have tons of sterling rings that are just fine. I currently wear a doveggs sterling set and have, daily, for the last 5 years. I take it off to do dishes / shower etc and it’s holding up perfectly.”
— A Dovie

Size, fit & how big it looks
A member finds their ring snug despite ordering their usual size, and others explain that wider bands fit tighter and recommend sizing up. · April 6, 2026
“Not a difference in size, but if your other rings are a thin band that could be what’s going on. You should size up a bit with thicker bands”
— A Dovie
“I think the ones you buy direct run 1/4 size larger, in my experience.”
— A Dovie
“The thicker bands need to be a quarter to a half size larger for a better fit. The Amazon rings feel a 0.25 size larger on me. But for the most part very accurate. I think if you still have the window to return it and get it fixed you should do so now.”
— A Dovie
“It’s always recommended to size up .25 - .5 for wider bands.”
— A Dovie
A member asks how a 2.09ct pear stone will look on a size 5.25 finger, and others share photos and details of their pear stones on similar finger sizes. · January 25, 2026
“Hi ! Here’s my pear that I sold because for me personally it was too small. It’s about the exact size of the one you posted. I am size 5, but wear 5/5.25 and some 5.5.”
— A Dovie
“Here is my 2.0ct (7.26x11.13mm) on a size 5.75 finger.”
— A Dovie
“Yes. I also had mine intentionally set in a setting to make it appear bigger. This stone could go semi-dainty if set horizontally at my size. Depends on the look you are going for but a 2ct pear is very versatile for settings.”
— A Dovie
“2.01 carat on a size 5.75 finger”
— A Dovie
A member asks if the sizing photo shows a size 6 ring, and others debate whether it looks correct or larger, sharing experiences with Doveggs sizing. · February 10, 2026
“Larger, make sure they adjust it now. They didn’t fix mine to fit the size I ordered and I was too impatient to get it so I never fixed the sizing and it’s too big, spins.”
— A Dovie
“This is always a fun debate. Their rings always run too big. I have learned to order a quarter to half size smaller depending on thickness of the band.”
— A Dovie
“It's larger. Their rings always runs too large”
— A Dovie
“I have bought several rings from Doveggs and love them, however, I feel this is a 6-1/4 based on my own rings fitting me a little loose. I hate to have to send back to resize...but I think it is a 6-1/4. I also have a sizing stick and all of the rings I get from them are 1/4 size larger...they measure that on my stick.”
— A Dovie
A member asks if a ring measures a 6.5 or 7 based on a sizing photo and whether the bezel looks off, and others give their interpretations and suggest requesting a video. · February 11, 2026
“Bezel looks off on top right side, could be lighting. Ask for more pics and a video”
— A Dovie
“The bezel does look off. Request video. Photos are sometimes misleading...”
— A Dovie
“The line marking size 7 is under the number. It looks like 6.5+ a smidge to me”
— A Dovie
“they sent me this which helped me understand which lines were which. The full sizes are the line wrapping around the mandrel, directly under the number.”
— A Dovie
Members debate whether a smaller or larger pear stone looks better next to an emerald, considering balance and color match. · March 26, 2026
“However, in this case, the bigger stone is not the same color as the emerald. It doesn't look right ( sorry) so either go w the smaller pear or keep the bigger one and switch out the emerald for one w a similar color.”
— A Dovie
“Smaller pear was able to be tilted, larger one would have been off balance and too big if you tried to tilt it. Wise choice to go with the smaller one. Take the large pear and have it set in a pendant.”
— A Dovie
“I do think the smaller pear looks best with the emerald. The larger pear would have overpowered it, where the smaller pear balances or compliments the emerald.”
— A Dovie
“I like large and gaudy so the larger pear is it for me. Get the one you actually wanted- it’ll haunt you if you don’t!”
— A Dovie
A member seeks advice on choosing between 4ct and 5ct elongated Krupp cut stones for a size 9 finger, and others share their experiences with stone sizes and proportions. · April 10, 2026
“Here’s my Krupp from a few years ago. 5ct on a size 6.5. I’m a larger person and prefer bigger stones.”
— A Dovie
“I'm a size 9 and my fingers are pretty short. I had a 3carat elongated cushion and it didn't overwhelm my hand but it was large enough in proportion that random strangers would point it out at work (customer service). I scaled back to 2ct just for my own comfort. And now I have a 1carat custom in the works. …”
— A Dovie
“I wear a size 9 (used to be 10 but have been slowly losing weight), and I also like elongated stones, especially elongated cushion. I have found that the sweet spot for me is 3ct, but in some settings I have thought I should’ve gone for a 4ct. It would definitely still be a large stone on a size 9 finger. …”
— A Dovie
“I have a 4ct krupp cut. I am currently between a size 7 and 7.25 finger. I think the 4ct stone is a decent size for a solitare or a 3 stone ring like mine. It offers the sweet spot of coverage over the finger without being too small or too large. …”
— A Dovie
Quick answers
- How do I know what stone size will look right on my finger? DovEggs provides a stone size chart that shows the millimeter measurement for each carat weight, so you can compare it to your finger size. Many customers also share finger-coverage photos in the community to help you visualize the look.
- Does the size of accent or pave stones affect the price? Yes, accent or pave stone size is a real price driver: going from e.g. 2.5mm to 3mm melee, adding stones to the bridge, hidden halo or gallery, or extending a half-eternity to 3/4 eternity all raise the quote. Lab diamond accents cost more than moissanite accents.
- Can I filter loose stones by carat or size? Yes, you can filter loose stones by carat or size on the stone collection pages. Please note that this filter is available on stone collections, not design collections.
Custom designs & the CAD process
A member asked about DovEggs' policy for replacing a moissanite in an existing DovEggs setting with a lab-grown stone, and DovEggs explained that they cover moissanite-to-moissanite replacements but not lab-grown-to-moissanite, though exceptions may be possible if measurements match. · May 13, 2026
“I just want to be clear that I want to put a lab grown stone in a setting where there is currently a moissanite, not the other way around. Presuming that the stone has nearly identical measurements as the existing moissanite, should there be an issue? …”
— A Dovie
“If the measurements are the same, you can email us to request the change and we'll ask for an exception on it. If approved, we'll start the process and send it to our Renton repair center for a swap.”
— A Dovie
“We cover the case when ordering a new moissanite to replace the moissanite in another old DovEggs moissanite ring. Unfortunately, we don't do this for lab-grown to moissanite, as lab-grown stones are measured individually by weight and don't have standard sizes. Hope it makes sense!”

Members share their turnaround times from CAD approval to receiving photos, and a DovEggs representative provides official timelines for gold/platinum and silver. · March 19, 2026
“I ordered mine on 2/13 (they went on holiday), so I received my first CAD 2/28, I made some changes and final CAD was received and approved 3/6. And was told I should receive photos around 3/26.”
— A Dovie
“I approved my CAD on March 12th. Had pictures on the 15th a video on the 16th and shipping label created on the 18th. Very satisfied!”
— A Dovie
“I have an order from March 6th and another on March 14th and I never got a CAD for either. Is that normal?”
— A Dovie
“Summer Lahr They did say if they were styles that were available in the sure with no customizations they were not going to make CADs for them without being specifically requested IDK if this applies to your orders”
— A Dovie
“Gold / Platinum is around 7-10 business days after CAD approval, Silver is around 15 business days after CAD approval.”

Members give feedback on a custom CAD design, discussing band thickness, durability, and stone count. · May 9, 2026
“I would definitely go up to at least 1.8mm. 1.5mm will not be as durable for everyday wear.”
— A Dovie
“I always do mine 2mm. You want plenty of metal there to withstand polishing over the years.”
— A Dovie
“The inspo has 5 melee stones but the cad has 3. And yes, the bottom is thicker on the CAD, but 1.8 is very thin…. Maybe 2.0.”
— A Dovie
“I'd definitely do 1.8mm for the thickness of the bottom of band instead of 1.5mm. It's less likely to bend this way. I think the 2mm width is perfect for a dainty looking band while still offering great support. …”
— A Dovie
Members discuss a specific ring setting, sharing photos with various cuts and sizes, and address concerns about the height of the setting and possible adjustments. · January 22, 2026
“DovEggs Moissanite if I order this ring is it possible to have this ring lowered so that the distance between the stone and the band is not so big? Is that something I can request?”
— A Dovie
“Yes, you can request that. They'll do up a new CAD with your adjustments.”
— A Dovie
“it is much higher than strictly needed for the stone, but it is shockingly easy to wear and doesn’t snag on things, etc.”
— A Dovie
“The only thing I might have changed in retrospect is how high set it is for the diamond size, but I suspect that lowering it would impact where the little white diamonds sit and the light/ability to sparkle (and be cleaned). And it really does sparkle.”
— A Dovie
A member asks for help checking a CAD, especially ring height and bezel thickness, and others advise on lowering the stone and comparing to inspiration photos. · January 20, 2026
“They could lower the stone down more”
— A Dovie
“I agree with , there's a little space below the stone to work with. Probably not enough to get to 6.0mm, but there's wiggle room. Just make sure to specify if you want the stone lowered all the way, but not touching the band.”
— A Dovie
“yes. I had a customized ring from MoissaniteCo further modified for me, and I wanted as low as possible. They made a very tiny hole below the culet. If you want I can try to find my CAD”
— A Dovie
A member asks if they can order a semi-mount offered with moissanite and change it to a lab diamond, and others explain that DovEggs allows extensive customization and share their experiences. · January 28, 2026
“You can order absolutely anything! I have sent a link from a different website, a screenshot of a semi-mount I liked, a CAD from another semi-mount I had created... You are not limited to their websites options. They make customs for their stones only!”
— A Dovie
“Buy the lab and pay for it so you don’t loose it. Choose for them to hold it and not to ship it. You can email inquiry to tell them you want it set into that ring - include information like size, what metal, a link to the ring you want. They’ll get back to you with a link to pay the balance. …”
— A Dovie
“Lori White Wasserman everything on the site. Doesn't matter if it's silver. All jewelery is made to order unless it specially says resale or pre-made. For this reason and because DE is amazing you are able to customize/adjust your jewelery exactly how you would like it best before production. …”

Quick answers
- Can I customize the setting details like prong count, bezel, or hidden halo? Yes, almost any setting detail can be customized, including prong count and style, bezel vs prongs, adding or removing a hidden halo, cathedral vs basket, open gallery, gallery rails, milgrain, band width and thickness, and stone orientation. You can send reference photos or an existing style number, and DovEggs will quote the modified setting.
- What design extras are available, like milgrain or engraving? Design extras seen and offered routinely include milgrain (including inside the band), brushed finish, open gallery, tulip or petal baskets, rope bands, split vs single shank, 3-sided pave, pave on the prongs or basket, and engraving. Engraved or custom pieces carry a 15% restocking fee if returned.
- What is the design process and timeline for a custom setting? Design work follows the standard flow: payment first, CAD within 72 hours, revisions until approved, then production (gold/platinum 7–10 business days, silver about 15). DovEggs does not provide a CAD before payment, but does give written quotes for a described design free of charge.

“Wow this one is very pricey. Maybe I won't buy it from here”
— A Dovie
“DE has really gone up! I’ve noticed this on other silver/moissanite pieces.”
— A Dovie
“This exact one's price is mainly from the stones, which will be around 5-6 cttw. With half eternity( GO usually offer both), the price will be significantly lower.”

A member asks whether a group order setting is made before choosing a stone and whether a sold-out peachy pink sapphire can still be requested. · May 18, 2026
“Those were accident stones and when they are gone they are gone!! I’m still feeling a pinch regarding the midnight evergreen stones! however you can always request to see if they have any peachy pink sapphires left or see if they have the material to custom cut it for you. …”
— A Dovie
“Here is Dani Janette Jameson post from a while back comparing both shades of pink available. Hope this helps.”

“Yes I would love a unique shaped stone”
— A Dovie
“DovEggs Jewelry could a star be made with kite cut stones?”
— A Dovie
“Unfortunately, we do not offer custom cutting for individual orders. Developing a new cut is a complex process that involves extensive 3D modeling analysis and repeated trial-and-error to perfect the angles. We often have to cut and discard many prototypes before a stone meets our high quality standards. …”

Members organize a group order for an east-west bezel ring, discussing bridge options, stone choices, and comfort concerns. · May 6, 2026
“Im interested! I would love a big east-west oval . I would probably choose to have the bridge”
— A Dovie
“For this style, be very thoughtful about what stone you put in there and how close it sits to your finger. The stone is likely to scratch your finger and often is uncomfortable to wear. Also, without a bridge it is more prone to becoming misshapen or bent over time. …”

Quick answers
- How is the price quoted for DovEggs Group Order designs? For Group Order designs, the quote is given as a base price for a 1ct center plus a per-extra-carat increment. The metal cost also rises with stone size, and the increment is much larger in gold than in silver.
- What are DovEggs Group Orders and how do they work? DovEggs Group Orders are Facebook-community buying events where a member proposes a design, others join, and the group price is locked at a set discount for that item. Group-order purchases follow the normal return policy, and the $50 rewards code can still be applied afterwards if your total is over $300 after the group discount.
- What's the difference between DovEggs Boutique and Group lab diamonds? Boutique stones are grown by DovEggs and hand-selected as premium, while Group stones come from DovEggs' lab partners and are usually lower priced. Both are lab diamonds, just from different sources.
Honest concerns — and how they turned out
A member asks for opinions on replacement stones after a mix-up, and DovEggs explains the mistake and process update. · May 7, 2026
“I'm glad they're remaking your ring, but I'm more interested in what they said happened. Is this something we should expect in the future with DE (approving one set of stones and receiving another..... sending in one picture and receiving a different design?)”
— A Dovie
“it was definitely a mistake on their end and unfortunately it never crossed my mind when i approved my cadd. My advice is to really study the cadd before approving. I had to learn this the hard way!”
— A Dovie
“we've identified the issue as a process mistake. We've since had a meeting and updated our process to include double verification for cases where the customer has approved stones. We're confident in the improvement and will make sure this kind of mistake won't happen again!”

“I just heard back from DE. The issue was caused by a tracking number change mid shipment. I logged into my FedEx account and I see my new tracking number.”

A shopper worries the stone she received is not the one she picked due to visible inclusions and different appearance, and members advise checking the stone's inscription and asking DovEggs to verify. · May 24, 2026
“Definitely have them check if it’s the stone you picked. This recently happened to me and I had to ship my ring back and have it remade. Don’t want that to happen to you. I wish I would have noticed it before I received it.”
— A Dovie
“I had a stone switched accidentally because they were the same carat weight, clarity, and color. Those inclusions are bad or are dust/dirt. Definitely ask them to check.”
— A Dovie
“Agree with the others…they can check the # on the stone to insure it matches. I can’t see any inclusions. Do you think you’re seeing the glares & shadows from the lighting?”
— A Dovie
“Lab diamond has laser inscription( Certificate #)on the wrist on each stone. Ask our custom team locate and confirm it.”

“The one on the right is definitely wonky!”
— A Dovie
“I see it, its not the angle its the prongs. Slightly off.”

“Seeing the vide DE sent in the comments I’m more concerned with the setting of the ring, why is the metal so far away from the stone? The setting looks like it’s too large for your stone I had this happen recently and requested for my stone to be reset. I love a flush seams fit so that mattered to me big time. …”
— A Dovie
“Just for your reference, the photo stage is not our final quality inspection.
